MOSAICA News …                                                   mosaic_letterbox

We thought we'd share some of our latest projects
with you.   You will see the latest addition to our garden
and courtyard outside our Mosaica shop.
We've had lots of comments about our bright
and colourful letterbox and our Postie says he
can't stop looking at it.
A letterbox is a great way to brighten up your
garden and welcome visitors to  your place.
So why not dress up that tired letterbox and give
it a new lease of life.
We used a metalletterbox, but a wooden one is
just as practical to mosaic onto.  If you'd like a
letterbox like ours, contact us and we'll be happy
to talk to you about it some more.

Here are some of our recent projects on display at Mosaica -

Our students have made many more fabulous mosaic projects in our classes – these are just a few of them.
Mosaics are all about sharing, and getting inspiration from other people’s projects is what motivates many
of our students and customers.  We will look at including some of the photos that we receive in our
next Newsletter, so keep your eyes peeled.

Ceramic Tiles

If you’ve been looking for a great selection of coloured ceramic tiles, you may have found it a little difficult lately.
A major supplier to the New Zealand market – Johnson Tiles – closed down here last year and this has left many
people scratching their heads as to where to get a range of coloured tiles.

Well, the wait is over  !!   This week, we have just received a shipment of Johnson Tiles and once again, we’re able to
offer our students and customers a wide range of coloured ceramic tiles.  So, if you haven’t been into Mosaica for
a while, now is a good time to visit us and stock up on your tiles for the coming Winter months and all those
mosaic projects that are waiting to be undertaken.

Cinca Tiles

If you haven’t used these fabulous clay tiles from Portugal, now is a good time to get some.  These tiles will no longer be brought

into New Zealand by the supplier and so when our stock is sold, there will be no more.  Be quick while we have a good range of colours

These tiles are great and come in a range of beautiful earthy colours (see below)

Winter Projects

Now is a great time to get those Winter projects underway.  The cooler Winter months are great for making gifts,

so here are some suggestions :

Concrete Hearts, Mini Mirrors, Large Mirrors, Suncatchers, Teapot Stands, Garden Balls, Lazy Susans … of if they’re hard to buy for, then how about one of our Gift Vouchers so they can choose some mosaic materials themselves.

Glass Tiles

We still have quite a range of beautiful Italian glass tiles in stock to choose from.  However once our stock has sold, the prices will rise significantly.  This is due to our suppliers no longer holding stock in New Zealand and having to import them on an as required basis.  The cost of freight  has risen greatly over the past year, as we all know, and this will make any further shipments very expensive.

So, if you are anything like us and you like to squirrel away some materials for those ‘rainy day’ projects, now is the best time to stock up.  These tiles won’t last and we recommend that you get in quick while there is still plenty of colour choice.

School Holiday Projects

Looking for something to keep your children’s fingers busy over the school holidays?

Our Suncatchers are proving very popular. Combine them with one of our Treasure Bags and you have an economical and fun activity for all ages.

Also, our Mini Mirrors are a small, easy project – great for children who are just starting out in mosaics.

Mosaics in New Zealand

Some of you may have heard of Margaret Coupe, but many of you may have never heard of her.  She is a fascinating lady who lived in Kaikohe and devoted more than 30 years of her life in later years to the art of mosaics.  Because there were very few, if any, materials available then for mosaics, she made all her own tiles and ceramic inserts from clay.

A book dedicated to her work has just been released and it is great to see that her story has finally been told.  She really was a pioneer in the art of mosaics in New Zealand.   This book is well worth purchasing and adding to your library of mosaic resource books.

We have a copy of this book in our Mosaica resource library and if you are interested in purchasing a copy of your own, please contact us by email or phone for further information.
